The moral of the story is do not let "popular" be used in place of "artistic" as the twain rarely meet.

In my mind, awards and selling albums do not make a band great. I listen to dozens of bands who have never been nominated for anything and just as good and even better than most popular bands. I also listen to a few bands I have to order their albums off the internet because I can't find them at any store.

True. It's like saying everyone must agree that Picasso was the great cubist of all time, you'll never have a consensus. Musical taste is subjective. There is no "best".
