RF's EUROPEAN SONG CONTEST! (tradition, America, experience, Israel, Christian)

I'm going to chose 8 songs from the European Song Contest and I want you all to choose your favorite, please! It'll be fun, and you'll get to experience the show that inspired American Idol!

For those who don't know, every country in Europe sends one song, every country in Europe votes. The winning entry earns that country the right to hold the contest next year - and on it goes. This year's contest was the 50th.

Israel, 2005 - Shiri Maymon, Hasheket Shenishar (Time to Say Goodbye) - amazing dress, simply amazing. good voice, gorgeous hair, i rate this highly!

Bosnia and Herzegovina, 2006 - Hari Mata Hari, Lejla (Layla) - i personally found this to be flat and dull, i do not rate this highly.

Turkey, 2003 - Sertab Erener, Every Way that I Can - amazingly coreographed, with another amazing dress! i wasn't as impressed with the vocals as no1, but i still rate this highly!

Serbia, 2004 - Zeljko Joksimovic, Lane Moje (My Fawn) - it's a pretty boy with a microphone, looses it's appeal after a while....

Greece, 2005 - Helena Paparizou, My Number One - it sounds to me like a highschool chick-flick song, i have no time for highschool chick-flicks.

Romania, 2005 - Luminita Angel, Let Me Try - a more adult chick-flick, but a decent set of jeans with an amazing top, and a performance with dignity. i have mixed feelings on this performance, i semi-like it, but i can see how others would really like it!

Sweden, 2006 - Carola, Invincible - overlooking the arrogance of the song title, a catchy tune, with a good looking woman singing with a meaningful voice, and once again we see an amazing dress! i find myself liking this more than Romain, 2005, though i don't actually know why

Sweden, 1974 - ABBA, Waterloo - my Gods, that's a sexy blue number! and i'm gay..... This one is from 1974, while the others are recent, so i am going to discount ABBA from my decisions as i don't think counting them out of the context of their time gives them the credit they truely deserve

Israel, 2005 - Shiri Maymon, Hasheket Shenishar (Time to Say Goodbye) - Very strong voice, a little flat and emotionless in places but still very good. She showed a lot of gratitude when she points from Europe's Muslim countries, so that was nice to see. I think her performance was one of the best.

Bosnia and Herzegovina, 2006 - Hari Mata Hari, Lejla (Layla) - Obviously, I'm biased but I love nothing more than a good, traditional Bosnian Sevdah song. These songs are always sad, this one is "Why did I love you, Layla!". The music was written by Zeljko (Serbia, 2004) who said it was "completely Bosnia". He even came to Sarajevo and did a concert of Islamic folk songs - hahaha. Such a sweet man. I loved our entry this year, it was my favorite entry... not that this is a hard thing.

Turkey, 2003 - Sertab Erener, Every Way that I Can - Nice, Eastern beat underneath the song. You can really dance to it, I love it. I don't like the vocals nor the lyrics though.

Serbia, 2004 - Zeljko Joksimovic, Lane Moje (My Fawn) - There are thousands of people in former Yugoslavia who got married just to have their dance to this song. It was everywhere, and got top votes from every country in the former Yugoslavia - amazing feat! So my favorite is Serbia 2004.

Greece, 2005 - Helena Paparizou, My Number One - A typical Eurotrash pop song, but it won the contest in 2005. Helena has a beautiful voice, she can't carry it as well as normal when she's dancing on stage but it was still very nice.

Romania, 2005 - Luminita Angel, Let Me Try - I thought southern Slavs were the only Balkan screamers, but then the Romanians came and blew us all out of the water. There is nothing I enjoy more than a power, woman's voice and Luminita's was very good.

Sweden, 2006 - Carola, Invincible - She's a Christian fundamentalist, which is fun sometimes. I didn't really root for her during the contest because of some things she said about Muslims but the song is okay. It's better in Swedish, but she has an absolutely amazing voice. She won the contest once back in the 80s.

Sweden, 1974 - ABBA, Waterloo - The only song I remember from - contrary to what Michel says - the boring old days of Western European Eurovision hegemony. Now that the East is in, it has some flavor.

The guy talking, he's so funny. His name is Terry Wogan and he's the commentator in Britain. Oh he says some evil, hilarious things.

This year after Bosnia's performance, he said: "Wow... well the Balkan countries will vote for that in dumb numbers."

And a few years ago Malta sent this enormous fat opera singer from their country, and when she came out on stage, he said: "Looks like Malta sent the whole island to sing for them." lol

Fluffy and I had a disagreement over Wogan on the night of the 2006 eurovision, i find him to be dry and void of any and all forms of humor, i get very bored listening to him and want to rip off his arm and slap him with the soggy end.... apparantly, according to Fluffy, that is the point of his humor....
