Since my wife and I moved to the wonderful town of Ft. Worth, TX, we have started listening to quite a bit of country music. I've grown to love it, especially because many of the lyrics employ a variety of rhetorical color that I appreciate.
On another thread here in RF things got pretty messy and someone said that Toby Keith is an idiot. Even worse than that, someone else talked bad about Willi Nelson's guitar, Trigger. What on earth is happening out there? I've never heard anything bad about Willi Nelson in my entire life.

By the way, nobody plays the Dixie Chicks anymore in Texas and rightly so.

Country music! Can I get a YEE-HAW? Yeah....come on!
![]() I used to think CM for only for tobacco chewin' rednecks , but after getting tired of talk radio and hearing the same songs on the Pop, Rock, and Top40 stations, I gave it a shot. I really liked what I heard and include the country stations in my music mix. Most of the songs tell great stories and have lyrics you can actually understand and sing along with. Most country singers are very passionate about their song topics, so whether it's God or country or just having a good time, they sing about what means the most to them. The criticism of Toby Keith for his "Angry American" song was understandable, but he was just putting to song what a lot of people were feeling after 09/11/2001. Alan Jackson's "Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning" was a thoughful, heartfelt song that also touched what a lot of people were feeling besides the raw anger. I think he won a Grammy for it, and I still get goose bumps whenever I hear it. ![]() As for the Dixie Chicks...none of the ATL stations play them either. That might change with their sound being more pop than country, but it's hard to tell just yet. I don't wanna' turn this political, so I'll just say that they have the right of Freedom of Speech, and so do the rest of us.

I'm going to admit this, though I'll not shout it... I like some country music.
Kenny Chesney is good. Have always liked Alan Jackson. Toby Keith has a few good tunes. And good ole Johnny Cash can still pull heart strings. Willie? Only really like a couple of his tunes mostly because I don't care for his voice much. "Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain" is nice. But, I would never go so far as to rip his guitar, Trigger! Guitars should be as sacred as cows in India for they are priceless. |
