Default A poem/song by Manowar on the Cherokee

Spirit Horse of the Cherokee

The trail of tears began for all the Cherokee
The white men came to trade & borrow but then they would not leave
Some of us were taken by boat, and died at sea
Those of us who lived were sold to slavery

We welcomed them as brothers knowing nothing of their greed
Born hunters not the hunted as the white man hunts for me
We are descendants of the animals we live among the free
Our trail of tears would end one day at Wounded Knee.

Great Spirit, thunder birds fly, we are wild and free
To fight and die by the open sky, Spirit Horse ride for me

When we do the Ghost Dance, the buffalo will return
Paint ourselves for war, now blood and fire burn
Great Spirit makes us strong, take us to the sky
The Cherokee are brave, we are not afraid to die

Great Spirit, thunder birds fly, we are wild and free
To fight and die by the open sky, Spirit Horse ride for me

Red Cloud, Black Hawk, Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse, Geronimo
Strong and brave warriors to the grave

There has been much killing there will be much more
The Medicine Man is dancing he's calling us to war,
Hatchets sing with pride let the white men die

Great Spirit, thunder birds fly, we are wild and free
To fight and die by the open sky, Spirit Horse ride for me

What do you think?

This is among my favourite Manowar songs...I tend to go for the 'slower' ones - 'Master of the Wind', as an example.

Manowar? Manowar!? Can't get much cornier unless you listen to Rhapsody a lot. Still not bad though.

WOW!

Druidus is a Manowar fan and by his avatar, Zephyr is obviously a Blind Guardian fan! Prepare for The Metal invasion of RF! The Halls of Valhalla shall shine in absolute glory!

Anyway... here's two other metal songs that discuss some of the impacts europeans had on American Indians and Tribal socities in general.

Quote:
Anthrax- Indians

We all see black and white
When it comes to someone else's fight
No one ever gets involved
Apathy can never solve

FORCED OUT - Brave and mighty
STOLEN LAND - They can't fight it
HOLD ON - To pride and tradition
Even though they know how much their lives are really missin'
WE'RE DISSIN' THEM ...

On reservation
A hopeless situation

Respect is something that you earn
Our Indian brother's getting burned
Original American
Turned into, second class citizen

[CHORUS:]
Cry for the Indians
Die for the Indians
Cry for the Indians
Cry, Cry, Cry for the Indians

Love the land and fellow man
Peace is what we strive to have
Some folks have none of this
Hatred and prejudice

TERRITORY, It's just the body of the nation
The people that inhabit it make its configuration
PREJUDICE, Something we all can do without
Cause a flag of many colors is what this land's all about

Quote:
Judas Priest- Savage

Who gives you the right to come here and tell me
I have to leave this place my home
To you it's a jungle, to me it's a kingdom
Where (my) people are free there to roam
Born with the stars we are happy and peaceful
'Til now we were left undisturbed
But you rupture the forests our gardens
And fill them with filth from your cities unheard

Savage, who is savage
Leave your morals, stake your claim
Savage, you are savage
Modern man can take the blame

You poisoned my tribe with civilized progress
Baptizing our blood with disease
You christened our bodies with sadness and suffering
Saying then that your god is well-pleased
What have we done to deserve such injustice
Explain to us please if you can
But you can't, no you can't, we can see it in your eyes
Of us both who's the primitive man

Savage, who is savage
Leave your morals, stake your claim
Savage, you are savage
Modern man can take the blame

You poisoned my tribe with civilized progress
Baptizing our blood with disease
You christened our bodies with sadness and suffering
Saying then that your god is well-pleased
What have we done to deserve such injustice
Explain to us please if you can
But you can't, no you can't, we can see it in your eyes
Of us both who's the primitive man

Savage, savage
Savage, savage
Who's the savage
Modern man
Who's the savage
Modern man
The Judas Priest song in particualr is a favorite of mine.

np: Mercyful Fate- Satan's Fall

Ulver I see you caught me before my ninja-switch. Good work. You can't go wrong cramming Manowar, Blind Guardian, Anthrax, Judas Priest, AND Mercyful Fate into one post.

Anyways, Run to the Hills. I don't feel like posting lyrics. They may not be nearly as deep as anything else posted, but I don't care. I'm out of ideas.

Metal invasion? It's a HOLY WAR!!!! *Starts screaming the lyrics to the song "Holy War" by Manowar*

Yes, Manowar is kind of cheesy. But I still like them and there music. Pumps me up.

I love metal, especially power metal. Blind Guardian, Iced Earth, Demons and Wizards, Rhapsody, Manowar, and all that other good stuff.

It's very rare these days that I'll listen to them (mostly because the only stuff of theirs I have was taped onto very crappy cassettes 10 years ago and sounds like crap now), but I do still enjoy their music if I'm in the mood. You can blame my boyfriend at Uni for me liking them lol. He had 'Triumph of Steel', and I babysat his cd player and cd collection when he went home for the holidays once. Actually, it's his fault I got into Benny Goodman, too. I have a pretty eclectic cd collection. When I quit Uni, I discovered a friend of a friend had a couple more Manowar cds, so I taped those too. *runs to check them out* So, I have 'Triumph of Steel', 'Kings of Metal' and 'Fighting the World'. I downloaded 'Spirit Horse of the Cherokee' last night so I could listen to it...might have to do some more.

Cool to hear man. Blind Guardian & Iced Earth (an obviously D&W) were the bands that got me aware of the more wide world of metal that you don't exactly hear on tv and radio. I'll never forget albums like Nightfall in Middle-Earth, Something Wicked This Way Comes, and the first Demons & Wizards album. Now my music taste has really, really grown and I hardly fall over for Power emtal as much as I used to (Black Metal and Noisecore have become my Main passions). Though like I said I'll always love bands like Blind Guardian & Iced Earth along with the likes of Therion and Evergrey.
