Red Cloud , Crazy Horse , and Sitting Bull were all Sioux . Geronimo was Apache . And Black { Sparrow } Hawk was Sauk . None of them were Cherokee , nor did any of them have any experience at all with the Trail of Tears .
I think they meant it more for Amerindians in general, rather than the Cherokee as a group. But "Amerindian" or "Native American" don't fit in songs as well as Cherokee.

And I took the liberty of studying those people. Very interesting people...

Oh , so it wasn't like they were too lazy to look up real Cherokee people and were just droping the first names that came to mind ? They could have named Will Rogers or Jimi Hendrix , or perhaps even Oral Roberts ? Elvis Presley ? No matter . We all know that them " Amerindians " are all alike anyway .

No I don't like the song . It is disrespective not only of the People , but of Histroy and the suffering of the Trail of Tears . And is nothing but bs IMHO . { sorry , that is a little strong , but it is how I feel } .

Sorry for people not caring to have their art go through the PC editing machine everytime they release an album.

The song is about the plight of American Indians and I don't think it's such a big deal to need to not use such a label because all of said people had a sharred experience in beign treated like crap from the "white men".

I do see Kreeden's point, though. Using such references as the Trail of Tears and the Cherokee name means they should have used Cherokee names. But I don't think it's too horrible. If nothing else, it got someone like me, unknowledgeable in Amerindian history, to research it.

Read up on the Trail of Tears . No , every First Nation DID NOT experience something like that . The problem I have with the song is that the writer doesn't appear to have a clue of what he is talking about . And trying to call it " art " is no excuss . It is like saying that Bush discovered America ... Or that Hilter saved the Russians from the Japanese , or some other silly thing like that .
