I have two I'd reccomend:
1). Ben-Hur. It's a wonderful movie to start with. However, its religion is intrinsic with a theme of love and forgiveness and a strong current of how hate breeds hate, and the ways that power corrupts people and turns friends on one another. 2). To End All Wars -- This movie made me cry when I first watched it, which is a difficult thing to do. The movie has a strong subtext about the suffering servant and how hate breeds hate as well. It also has a subtext about the civilizing effect of education in cerain parts.

great movies. I like most of the ones mentioned.
Havent seen the one about the Rabbi in training and the prostitute though, Maybe when it hits video, i am in a small town too. My suggestion is, "What the !@#$% do we know?" You can read about it at www.whatthebleep.com Whether or not it is religious is debateable as it is only touched on by the scientists. I think it is religious because it proves all thiests and non thiests correct, and that is tchnically impossible, so "god" must have a "hand" in it ![]() |

The chocolate war is great religious film with some ponderings in it. It is kinda old and hard to find. I believe it was made in the late 80's or very early 90's. It is about a named Jerry Renault (played by actor Ilan Mitchell-smith of weird science), who goes to an all-boys catholic school. There he becomes the victim of a vigels prank. The vigils are a group in the school haze non-members while teachers turn a blind eye. Every year the school has a chocolate sale and the vigils assignment for Renault is to refuse the chocolates for 10 days and than accept them thus "rejecting" the will the of the school and hence in a larger sense the will of God.
The movie has an interesting insight to the nature of free will divine intervention, religious politcs and human sociology though it is completely fictional in its presentation. |

The Big Kahuna. Originally based on a play the movie stars Danny Devito, Kevin Spacey and Peter Facinelli. The three of them are on a sales convention out in Wichita Kanas. Kevin Spacey plays an agnostic atheist and Peter Facinelli plays a Christian. Danny Devito's religion is not revealed but could be the theory of long speculation based on the movie. The three of them argue and discuss the nature of apologetics as seen from three men with three different viewpoints.

the old 60s version of Jesus Christ Superstar has a lot of racial profiling. jesus is played by a blonde hair blue eyed guy, and judas is played by an african american.
sigh.

Actually EH,
The "symbolism" was mocking our preconceived notions. Out of context, I could see how you could see it otherwise, but at the time it was an open satire on our national bias. BTW, the satire was not lost on the politicians and people it was lampooning. FWIW, I would have never thought that I would be lending some historical perspective to that classic. Gosh I feel so OLD! ![]()
