Default Superman and Christ (Spoiler Warning)

As a warning, this post contains some spoilers for the new Superman movie, so skip it if you haven't seen it yet and don't want to have key elements of the plot revealed.

I was stunned by the amount of Christian allegory in the new Superman movie. It was far more prevalent and up front and center than any other movie I have seen, even The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. It has everything from the Tree of Knowledge to the death and resurrection. Here are some examples:

Jor-El: "Even though you've been raised as a human being you're not one of them. They can be a great people, Kal-El, they wish to be. They only lack the light to show the way. For this reason above all, their capacity for good, I have sent them you... my only son"

Lois Lane's claim that the world doesn't need a savior and Superman's response that he hears everything and there are many people who cry for one.

Superman's home in the arctic represents the Tree of Knowledge. Luther went there to acquire the "knowledge of the gods".

In reversing Luther's evil plot, Superman "died" and then rose again in a couple of days.

Superman posed like the Christ while flying and stayed there for a few moments.

Jor-El's quote that people of Earth would imitate his moral behavior if he led the way.

These are the main things I noticed. Anyway, the movie was pretty good, although the whole soap opera with Lois and her boyfriend and son was annoying. It kind of added a Da Vinci twist to it.
