My favourite kind of movie are those with a minimal amount of action and plot happening on screen and held together through clever script and character development. The plot is then revealed slowly to the audience via character interaction. I know that sounds a bit specific but there are plenty of movies that fall into that category for me. Resevoir Dogs is an excellent example of what I mean. Trainspotting is also another excellent example but falls down, in my opinion, as soon as it starts becoming plot orientated (ie when they start the drug dealing bit but its still very good).
I also like tragedies. Especially tragedies done in the original Greek style ie the hero has a character flaw that predestines his impending doom but others are good too. Donnie Darko is probably my favourite tragedy of all time. Lastly, whilst I wouldn't rate the film itself anywhere in my top 10, I did find Willy Wonka in the latest Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to be absolutely brilliant.

Willy Wonka is one of my favorite movies now... I'm just a hopeless Depp fangirl
I love his acting skills. One of my friends made a joke about me being such a Depp fangirl and being lesbian, to which another friend replied "No, you see, if Jensa was to ever do anything with Depp, she'd be convinced he was a girl... he's that good an actor." ![]() Speaking of Burton, who's looking forward to the Corpse Bride? It looks very amusing. |

I couldn't pick a specific genre. If anything, I love movies that clash genres or include two different genres that haven't or shouldn't go together. Valley Of the Gwangi combines western (cowboys, gypsies, horses) with creature horror (dinosaurs, legends). Legend Of the Seven Golden Vampires combine the British horror of Count Dracula with the Hong Kong martial art genre to produce a very bizarre film. Shaun Of the Dead combined humor (British) with zombies (horror). The only thing I ask from movies is that they show me something I haven't seen before. It could be any genre, just make the story original and entertaining.
