Angellous is looking for a job... (choice, attend, churches, pray)

As many of ya'll know, I'm in my senior year in a New Testament phd program. I've got a lot of stuff going on now.... tweaking stuff for publications, preparing for exams, and fighting a case of senioritis (not wanting to do anything, which accounts for the inordinate amount of time on RF lately), and preparing for my dissertation. Publication is everything.

Anyway, this is of particular interest I think for Christians, because it's possible that I will end up on faculty at a seminary or otherwise religious school. My first choice, however, is that I will end up in a rediculously high paying job at a university.

I've found that several universities are hiring ABD students (all but dissertation) as professors (a real job) which is what I will be soon. I finish my courses in the spring (only ONE more paper!!!!) and then take a laundry list of exams, and then I am hirable.

I'd appreciate prayers and best wishes that I can find a job in the coming year -- not to mention that my work will be effective and fruitful right now. I'd love to start teaching in the Fall 2009, but it will most likely be Fall 2010. In any case, I'm financially able to search for a whole year, and after that, I just don't know.

Nate how will you job hunt? Will you send out resumes to schools and churches? How does job hunting work in your profession? Are you willing to relocate?

I am a memeber of a few scholarly guilds. I get email notifications when members of my guild retire and I send my resume to the fellow member, who in turn recommends me for their job ... and a few older friends will have my resume and give it to others outside the guilds. I will never, ever, ever just send my resume anywhere without an insider giving it to the right person for me.

I will have to relocate.

First off, you'd better use spell check on your resume first Mr. Almost PhD! Second, you can find a ridiculously high paying job at a uni?

but from the effort you have and will put in it wont be luck.
academic jobs can be very well paid, depends where the finance comes from.
