so yesterday evening a dear friend of mine, Allison, invited me with her family to go to the mosque in Cincinnati, Ohio for evening prayers. i'd never been to a mosque, and was thrilled and honored to be invited. i have to say it is one of the most beautiful houses of worship i've ever been in, and i was very humbled and impressed.
070_End of prayer in Greater Cincinnati Mosque on Flickr - Photo Sharing! 069_Prayer in Greater Cincinnati Mosque on Flickr - Photo Sharing! their daughter, a wonderful, intelligent kid ran around and showed me how to make wudu, and Allison guided me through salat. us women went upstairs to the women's balcony and i prayed squished between a lovely woman from Saudi Arabia here on vacation, and my friend. we talked to her afterwards, she was delightful, kind, and gracious. afterwards i got to mill around the main sanctuary and herd the kids back into the main foyer. ![]() it was a beautiful place, and i'm very grateful to have been able to go...

Is there anything specific you're preparing for Ramadan? I know there are some who love to fast with Muslims, are you planning to fast a day or maybe more?

Very cool ayani! Ramadan is a special time to visit and participate.
Makes me wonder how one officially becomes Muslim...I'm sure it's been discussed before but I can't remember. Can anyone just start going to Mosque and participating at all levels of the community, or is there something else that must first be done?

peace and summia, thank you! jazak Allah khair, friends.
Luna- i think what is needed to officially convert is to recite with four witnesses, the shahada ( there is no God but God and Mohammed is the messenger of God ), and then to continue in study and practice. but i think many people begin my going to mosques, discussion with Muslims, reading the Quran or books about Islam, all the bases. i'm not sure if the four witnesses is totally neccesary or if there are exceptions...
