Well, I made a milestone today. I also hit another milestone yesterday morning at 5:30 am as that is when I hit seven consecutive cigarette free days in over THIRTY years. Curiosly I am not saying I am <insert evil "Q-word" here> but rather that I am delaying (indefinitely) my next purchase of a pack of cigarettes. (OK, I am having a week moment now. and hence the reason for the thread, lol.)
Oh.. right... my milestone today was, I walked into a store to buy some Pepsi and fully intended to buy cigarettes as well (Oh... just one pack...). Well, I clamped down on myself at the cash out and left the store with only my Pepsi. By George, I think I just might make it, lol. BTW: As I suspected, I no longer want a smoke now... so this post has served its purpose. All in all, I am really surprised with how simple it has been to "not smoke", especially since I am not using the psychological pressure/setup in claiming to <insert evil "Q-word" here>. One neat thing is that I really do feel better already after being away from my 1-1/2 to 2 packs a day habit for the first week in decades.

Ymir- well done, man.
no one who's smoked in my family has yet been able to quit. that's a big, big milestone to hit.

Good job. In between cigarettes. That's whay my father has said for the past 30 years. Currently I'm only in between cigarettes the longest when I sleep. But I'm always glad to hear when someone else is going without.
Frubals to you. |

Great job! I know how hard it is...I went cold turkey after 9 years...but that was 25 years ago. And my parents both quit after more than 35 years, and went through a lot to stay off! You are in my prayers!

I hardly ever smoke, but I've been smoking like a chimney this last week. Perhaps the universe is just sustaining balance. Whether that's true or not, good job! Maybe you'll just have to keep on making new threads if it really helps.

Hang in there, it gets a little bit easier each day.

Well done. I know how hard this is only too well, having finally (god willing) managed to kick the habit only relatively recently after 16 years of smoking. I tried many times before and always failed. I still doubt I'd have succeeded if it weren't for my priest but, of course, Orthodox confession is not something I can recommend as a method for most smokers who want to quit. Hang in there and try not to replace the cigarettes with something else harmful. One of my failings on previous attempts, I think, was to substitute caffeine for nicotine, which apart from anything else lead to huge headaches.
