Have any of you tried group discussions and things like that using VoIP? I love the idea!

I started using skype for a bit, but then making more long distance calls with impudence to the cost, i discovered i really didn't have much to say to anyone after all. The chat system works pretty good in contrast to our own here, though (sorry, todd).

So far I've mostly talked with people I know personally and a few people I've known online for years and years. In the case of people I've known online a long time its odd because, although I've been in correspondence with them for such a stretch of time, actually talking on the phone is so different to text based communication that it does seem unreal. The only exception is one woman who I'd come to share so much personal stuff with over IM (we used to chat pretty much every day for hours at a time) that we went straight into the old routine as soon as I'd stopped laughing at her sqeaky minnie-mouse voice with its deep southern American accent. With others I'm finding that it doesn't take long for a net persona and a phone persona to gell together though.
