I have been on here for just under one year. I wanted to over time list various things I have learned from other members on here and how it is helped me grow. But before I brainstorm and start posting on it, I wanted to ask others:
Which other members have taught you something and what have you learned from him or her? ps: I wil answer this when I have more time...back to work work work.... ![]() |

too much to recite, from too many members. Scott, Lilithu,Jay, Pah, Maize, Feathers, Jensa - Wow, just look at the members list; everyone has something unique to give......I have changed/grown (hopefully) a lot; as i said in a post recently.
I only have to look at posts of mine from six months ago to realize just how much I have learned - as a Christian, I have learned much fro Atheists, agnostics - everyone has some 'wisdom' in them

It will take me a while but I am going to go one member at a time. No big hurry I figure.
Jay Soule taught me what teleology was and how it was appilied. Well he was the starting point for my current level of understanding of it anyway. I had heard the word before but had a slim understanding of it. I made a post in some thread and he said something to the effect of "teleolgy rears its ugly head" Not an exact qoute but close. I will probably never find that post again. I googled the word and over time between reading his posts and others mostly in the science vs religion section I not only learned what the term was, but how various ideologies look at it and apply it or don't apply it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teleology |

Lilithu and Maize taught me alot about UU pluralism. They both are really adroit at using existing UU philosophy to present the idea of pluralism. It is one thing to present it as your own theory but they specifically helped me in understanding how UU has presented in by constanly putting out posts on it on various threads in both the UU section and the religious debate section from time to time.

My respect for other paths has greatly increased! And I've learned that I lack any skill for professional debating.

Scott1 has done quite a job introducting me to catholic canon and theory. I didn't know what the word canon was when I first got here. He did more than that though. He used the advent and other online tools to show how one could study catholism even if one isn't catholic. I have gone to a few of his resources and looked around a bit.
I was the translator for my part time job on the election of the new pope. My part-time job has about 10 catholics and 10 non-catholic christians and I was explaining to them how the elections worked. They looked at me and said, "how do you know all this you don't even believe in god?" I told them Scott taught me all this online. |

Pah has taught me how to use the secular philosophy I have read in my daily life. It started when once he told me that Ayn Rand was a secular philosopher he read and though he didnt' fall in line with that her thought he showed him there were others ways to think. I started to see from that comment that even though I might reject the theory of universal equality of say John Locke's utilitarism it didn't mean the whole theory was wash. I found his recent posts here: A statement of my atheism as one of the best post I have read on this forum. His best gift wisdom was from his statement "atheism comes from within". It isn't so much the statement by itself but watching him apply it here with political action plans and philosophical though on rf. From his knowledge to seperation of church and state issues to his understanding or morality a |
