I cannot find an article on this, but I heard it on the main lunchtime News today. Of course, you Americans are still getting out of bed.....(We are always been ahead of you!)
A fourtenn year old boy (who cannot be named for legal reasons) appeared in Court Today (?), for the rape of a twelve year old girl. He dragged her into an alley way, threatened her with a knife, and raped her. The judge presiding passed sentence on him. The sentence was a two year supervision order and being being 'electronically tagged'. That is it. The judge deemed that the boy had been so traumatised giving evidence in court, that "That alone was sufficient punishment for him". Do you agree/Disagree ? what do you think?

I'm appauled, rape is rape no matter the age. The kid obviously knew what he was doing, considering he had previously equipped himself with the knife in order to threaten her. And at 14, you know the difference between right and wrong. Namely that rape is wrong.
He deserves much more than what he received.

My first inclination is that the boy had been taught how to do that by either another person (being the victim of sexual abuse himself) or from some kind of media (porn, video games, etc). Hopefully the investigation went further than this incident.

Thats awful. The kid should have been sent to a young offenders institute, and then a proper prison when he's old enough. He should have gone down for a long time for that. Our legal system is a bloody joke.

I am appalled that a rapist got off easy because he was 'traumatized' in court. There is nothing in a court hearing that could hold a candle to the suffering of that twelve year old girl that he inflicted at knife point. This is not punishment. This is not rehabilitation. This does little to prevent recidivism. This is an outrage. Is there anyway to press for a more substantial sentence?

Truly appalling!
![]() If that judge is bychance elected, I hope he can be voted out. I know kids make mistakes of youth, but he carried out too many deliberate actions to dismiss. If anyone thinks his having to testify in court is traumatic, I must be an ogre. I would have ordered him released into the general prison population for one day, then sent to juvenile detention. I know prisoners are 'bad dudes', but they have a certain 'code' and know how to straighten out someone who thinks it's 'OK' to rape a 12 year old.I honestly hope he gets 'straightened' out with supervision, but I imagine in 4 years or so when he commits an even worse crime, his punishment might be more fitting. As for you Brits being 'ahead' of us... ...you guys are in the bed just when the party is cranking up. Fuddy-duddies!

That's disgusting. (I mean the sentence and the crime).
I read the OP and thought wonder where his parents stand on all of this. Are they supportive? Does he have parents? What would you do if it were your son? I remember Ted Bundy's final interview, someone told me he wanted to totally absolve his parents once and for all because there had been so much trash talk about how horrible they must have been etc. This is just disturbing on so many levels.
