We read section 84 of the Doctrine and Covenants in Elder's Quarum today and something dawned on me.
D&C 84: Quote:
After Sadam was pulled out of his hole, the US siezed his houses; and in one of them, the platoon held a Sacrament meeting, and in that meeting they had realized it was the first time the priesthood authority was exercized there in thousands of years. Even though I hate war, this was entirely orchestrated by the Lord for the furthering of missionary work. Because of us going over there and overthrowing the government, we are now going to be able to spread the gospel in places we never had a chance to. This happened in the Book of Mormon when the Nephites went to battle against the Lamanites, and afterwards many of them were converted. Also, those who accept the Gospel without being compelled to are better off than those who do. While I don't like Bush, I believe that it was part of God's plan for Bush to further the Lord's work of going forth and spreading the gospel across the entire earth.

Before we went into Iraq, we all debated on the right course of action. We talked about how the Nephites never attacked the Lamanites, but only fought in self-defence. Remember how we all waited with baited breath for Pres. Hinckley's talk in Gen. Conf. just after the invasion? His talk was very reassuring.
It's always good to hear of good outcomes. The story about a sacrament meeting in one of Saddam's houses is encouraging. Btw, for what it's worth, I like Pres. Bush and truly believe he's a good man. So it hurts to hear the negativity. There was a talk in conference several years ago about speaking respectfully about our government officials, even though we disagreed with them. I stopped slamming Pres. Clinton after that. I don't know if this war is the work of the Lord. I hope so. I hope it will result in the further spread and exposure to the Gospel to these people. Who would have thought the Iron Curtain was God's way in preparing the Communist countries for receiving the Gospel? |

War is no good, but what has resulted from it is good, that being the freedom of religion and the liberation of so many Iraqis from an aweful dictator.
Men and women now enjoy freedoms that they normally could never dream of having. Think of our armed forces as a giant police force, enforcing the laws of God, and affording so many the God given right to excercise their free agency. Last edited by FFH; 07-06-2008 at 05:24 PM. |

a mostly lds platoon?im not sure how that would happen since the army doesnt segregate based on religion.i guess if he was a member of a guard or reserve unit called to active duty from a mostly lds area it could work out that way.
