Thanks - interesting

read another interesting article off of times:
MormonTimes - doctrine & beliefs

I knew this but did not really think about them not being Jewish...
"determining Lehi's DNA is difficult because the book claims he is not even Jewish, but a descendant of the biblical Joseph."

None of the writings are specifically identified, but parts of the description make it sound like comparisons are being drawn to the Nag Hammadi documents (the "Gnostic" Gospels). Are those the "Egyptian" documents to which he is referring in the article?

I believe that the writings referred to are of Egyptian in origin both on metalic plates and papyri.

if he is a descendant of Joseph it would explain why Lehi knew Reformed Egytptian.

Agreed. IMO Lehi probably was a trader. It is obvious that he knew the art of the carivan. Also the fact that they had so much gold and silver items. Those were common commodities to trade in the Sixth Century BC for goods and services. So I am sure that Lehi had travelled outside Jerusalem around the known trading area of Israel at that time. It would have been important for his sons to know Egyptian along with other languages of the geographical area.
