What do you think of the following idea of the SBC now referring to Mormonism as being the 4th Abrahmaic Religion?
[excerpt] "WASHINGTON – Is Mormonism the fourth Abrahamic religion? The head of the Southern Baptist Convention’s political arm discussed the idea this week during an interview regarding presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Dr. Richard Land, president of the SBC’s Washington-based Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, said on the TV show “Political Capital” with Al Hunt that he considers the Mormon Church to be the fourth Abrahamic religion. “Judaism being the first, Christianity being the second, Islam being the third and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints being the fourth,” said the prominent Baptist leader. Although his consideration of Mormonism being an Abrahamic faith could be seen by some as a promotion of the religion typically considered a cult by Christians, Land clarified that he views Mormonism “in the same sense” as he looks upon Islam – as another religion. “Joseph Smith would play the same character in Mormonism that Muhammad plays in Islam,” Land noted, referring to the founder of the Latter Day Saint movement, or Mormonism…. Mormonism was formally listed under “cults and sects” by the Southern Baptist Convention, but was newly categorized among “newly developed religions” on the North American Mission Board apologetics page. Michelle Vu Christian Post" At least the SBC doesn't list us as a cult now! Progress, I suppose! |

From my perspective I accept Mormons as Christians.
Not a totally different religion. It is a branch of Christianity, and has its base in the love of Christ.

It is a form of Christianity, so I would say it's Abrahamic.
Like Terry, I've never considered LDS to be seperate from Christianity/Abrahamic religions.

I wouldn't refer to it as the fourth Abrahamic religion.
However, this is a step in the right direction.

It isn't a step int he right direction. We are christians, and we are already labeled under the "2nd abrahamic" e don;t really care what the southern baptist convention thinks we are. they label us as a "cult" for crying out loud.

Considering that they don't consider us Christians and hatefully label us a cult, I'd say, yes, it is a baby-step in the right direction.

I'd ask them why they've forgotten Baha'i.

Do you know how many people out there will not give us a second glance because they've heard we aren't "Christian"? How many people slam the doors on missionaries? Think about it..... |

![]() According to modern Christianity, a Christian is not only a follower of Christ, but someone who has a personal relationship with Christ. As far as I know, the LDS Church has this: Mormon.org - Exhibit
