This is for those of you who have converted to LDS...
How did you go about telling your family? I know some of you come from religious church going families anyhow - which may have made it slightly easier - I have the extra problem of my mum thinks all church goers are weird - she doesnt even know anything about the faiths. Its strange has she likes all my uni friends (mainly because they are academic!) but what she doesnt know is that they are also religious! ![]() Its almost has if she is worried about being "different" or having a "different" daugter. I have always been a hard working academically conscientous person which mum loves - i think she may be worried that will go. She moans at me for not drinking saying its normal to drink and sociable! The other day as some of you know - I had missionaries come round. Her questions was what do you want to speak to them for, dont you find them weird? I said no and something else (which I wont see on here as it might offend some of the other members!) but it she didnt have a answer for it - so worked! Everytime I try to start a convo on religion, she ignores me sneakily! as in starts doing other bits and pieces or changes the subject - she says she doesnt like talking about it. She also says that she believes in God and we could chat about the medium programmes and whether we believed in that etc. She also mentioned the other night about how religion was the cause of all the problems in the world - I really wanted it to say something, but didnt want to cause an argument and thought it was the wrong time! Which would make things worse! So how do I go about telling my mum I am in the process of converting to LDS? She doesnt even know the missionairies are coming tomorrow and unfortunately she will be here!!! HELP!!! ![]() Sorry about the novel!!! ![]()

Hey, your situation is almost identical with my wife's.
She was around 20 wnen she converted and didn't drink before she converted to the LDS faith, but all her friends and family did.. Her father had already passed away and her brother didn't care if she joined the LDS faith and her mother thought it would be good for her to hang around LDS people her age, since they seemed more conservative, but never thought she would join I guess.. Her mother finally caved in and joined two years later... Just be a positive influence on her and invite her to sit down with you and the missionaries if she acts at all curious and don't assume she is not interested, because most are at least interested in one or more aspects of the LDS faith... I've been to England and throughout Europe twice and have been in a Church of England cathedral or whatever you call them... my wife would know which Church of England cathedral we went to.. We almost went to an LDS church service in England, while we were there, still wish we had... Pray that your mother won't interfere with what you're doing... Those closest to you with mess with you, because Satan knows who you care about and who can get to you, and will use these people to try and prevent you from going through with your plans... There is an opposition in all that you will do in your life, take it head on and plow through all the negative forces which will come against you... It happens to all of us who are headed in the right direction. Satan is jealous of us and wants us to be as miserable as he is, never forget that... Last edited by FFH; 06-24-2007 at 03:59 AM. |
