This thread is for any President Hinckley quotes you want to share with the forum. ![]() This is taking form "Standing for Something" "The twentieth century was just a decade old when I was born to loving, God-fearing parents. In 1910, a male born in the United States could expect to live to age fifty, and I am happy to say that I have bettered that expectation considerably." "We have basic cornerstones on which the Latter-day church has been established by the Lord and built, "fitly framed together." They are absolutely fundamental to this work, the very foundation, anchors on which it stands. The first, or chief, cornerstone we recognize and honor as the Lord Jesus Christ. The second is the vision given the Prophet Joseph Smith when the Father and the Son appeared to him. The third is the Book of Mormon, which speaks as a voice from the dust with the words of ancient prophets declaring the divinity and reality of the Savior of mankind. The fourth is the priesthood with all of its powers and authority, whereby men act in the name of God in administering the affairs of his kingdom." - The Cornerstone of Our Faith, Ensign, November 1984; pgs. 50-53
"Given what we have and what we know, we ought to be a better people than we are. We ought to be more Christlike, more forgiving, more helpful and considerate to all around us." - At the Summit of the Ages, Ensign, Nov. 1999, p. 72 "Regardless of the circumstances, we have the comfort and peace of Christ our Savior, our Redeemer, the living Son of the living God." - War and Peace, Ensign, May 2003, 78 "The gospel of Jesus Christ is the way of peace. To the extent we follow it and incorporate it in our lives, to this extent will we be blessed and prospered. What a wonderful thing it is to be involved in this glorious work. Let us rejoice in our great opportunity. Let us serve with gladness." - The Condition of the Church,” Ensign, May 2003, 4 "May we live worthy of the glorious endowment of light and understanding and eternal truth which has come to us through all the perils of the past. Somehow, among all who have walked the earth, we have been brought forth in this unique and remarkable season. Be grateful, and above all be faithful." - General Conference, April 4, 2004 (Sunday Morning)

![]() "The power to heal the sick is still among us. It is the power of the priesthood of God. It is the authority held by the elders of the Church" (President Gordon B. Hinckley, "The Healing Power of Christ," Ensign, Nov. 1988, 54) |

![]() I am optimistic concerning the work of the Lord. I cannot believe that God has established His work in the earth to have it fail. I know that it is getting stronger. It realized, of course that we are beset in the world with many tragic problems. And yet I am optimistic. I have a simple and solemn faith that right will triumph and that truth will prevail. I believe that "truth crushed to the earth will rise again." When I left for my mission, my good father handed me a card on which were written five words. The were the words of the Lord to the ruler of the synagogue who had received news of his daughter's death : "Be not afraid, only believe." (Mark 5:36). If ever you faith is inclined to weaken as you see the onward march of evil and oppression, read again the story of Daniel who, putting his trust in the "God in heaven that revealeth secrets" (Daniel 2:28), interpreted Nebuchadnezzar's dream. He said concerning our day that the God of heaven shall "set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but is hall break in pieces and consume all these kingdom and is shall stand for ever." (Daniel 2:44) Yes, this work requires courage to speak out and faith to try. This cause does not need critics; it does not need doubters. It needs men and women of solemn purpose. As Paul wrote to Timothy: "God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord." (2 Timothy 1:7-8). I wish that every member of this Church would put those words where he or she might see them every morning as he or she begins the day. They would give us the courage to speak up; they would give us the faith to try; they would strengthen our conviction of the Lord Jesus Christ. I believe that more miracles would happen over this earth. I know that God lives, that Jesus is the Christ, that this is Their holy work, and I plead with you and with the God of heaven that we shall have the power and faith and the devotion to roll it forward to its great destiny. (President Gordon B. Hinckley, "Be Not Afraid, Only Believe", Ensign, Feb. 1996, 2-5) |

![]() "We do not worship the Prophet. We worship God our Eternal Father and the risen Lord Jesus Christ. But we acknowledge the Prophet; we proclaim him; we respect him; we reverence him as an instrument in the hands of the Almighty in restoring to earth the ancient truths of the divine gospel, together with the priesthood through which the authority of God is exercised in the affairs of His Church and for the blessing of His people." ![]() "This Church...if far more than a social organization where we gather together to enjoy one another's company...It is the kingdom of God in the earth. It behooves us to act in a manner befitting membership in that kingdom. ("An Ensign to the Nations, a Light to the World," Ensign, Nov. 2003, 84) |
