Part of me says, it's just a book and it would be nice to share a piece of such an important part of our faith with as many people as possible, but another part of me thinks that things like this should be preserved.

I see this as being similar to a Guttenburg Bible. It's a historical artifact. It shouldn't be divided, at least in my oppinion.

I agree with all your comments. Her destruction of one of the most important parts of Mormon history is very disappointing. Hopefully the other remaining copies have ended up in hands of people who have more respect for LDS history and history in general.

If someone burned a Bible in front of me, I wouldn't be offended and for the same reason I'm not offended at tearing pages out of a BoM, Quran or any other "holy" book. They're just books. Since it's God's book, I'll leave the offense (and punishment, if any) up to Him.

However, it absolutely torques me that someone would destroy such an old artifact. Why am I not surprised. Americans on the whole have no appreciation for historical value. We tear down buildings the way we move furniture so why should a book made of flimsy paper be any different.

This has always bugged me also. When anything starts getting old, instead of preserving the history, it is torn down and replaced or thrown out. Of course, some things are not worth preserving, but anything that has some historical value definately does deserve some respect. Maybe I'm more sentimental than most Americans.
