Hola. Namaste. Welcome. Nice to meet you.
![]() Question: who are you? ![]() Sorry. I don't mean to be rude. I am just confused by there being an RF member with only 104 posts yet is an admin. (Or in Star Trek terms, a red-shirt. )Anyway, welcome. ![]()

Hi Marka, welcome to RF.
I have to say, when I heard about the sudden change of ownership I braced myself for the worst (was afraid I'd log in here one day and see "Proud member of the 700 Club" in the user title of each of the new admins). To find, instead, an artistic... Quote:

(I'm a theist but as soon as I looked at the "religion" tag in your user ID and saw "um...no" I said "Oh yeah!" So again, welcome to RF Marka. Hope this turns out to be the funnest job you ever had.

Thank you very much, Quagmire. While I feel flattered by your summary of my character, I'm not that ridiculously modest to disregard the fact that it's actually pretty accurate.
![]() Uhm... the "a bit" part may be tough. I guess I could go on about it for (p)ages. ![]() I put it there because I thought it was the best summary of Star Trek philosophy but, to be fair, I must admit a lot more goes in there for me. I'll try to list my basic principles then. Well, first of all it's tolerance: any and all beings have exactly the same right to live as I do. It's also IDIC, as I said: we're all different and that's what makes us unique and the world interesting. Prime Directive: I want to get to know you, understand what makes you tick, not to change you into my own shape. With all this comes respect, of course: I will honor your views and opinions whether or not they agree with mine. Finally it's also boundaries, the toughest part, I think. Taking all of the above into consideration, I can't help but grant you the right to be as prejudiced, racist and whatnot as you fancy (not you personally, of course). It stops as soon as you start hurting people with your words or actions. I perceive Star Trek to be far more than a captivating sci-fi (or even fantasy, given its symbolics) adventure story. I see it as a fight against all human faults: our aggression, superstition, xenophobia, and dozens more. Granted, it looks like an into-your-face propaganda at times, which it's didactic mission surfacing far too often but I'm willing to forgive it since I accept this philosophy into my life I think it's the shortest version I can give you. ![]() Last edited by markablue; 08-25-2007 at 02:44 AM. |

Welcome Marka!
![]() I would like to ask you. What do you think is the most interesting or special thing in RF which you noticed in this short time of you joining us, but didn't find it anywhere else "other forums"? |
