What I went to college for/worked in: Organic Chemistry, Music, Comp. Sci., Tech. Writing, Horticulture.

What I actually do these days: Mom, self-employed Gardening business

What I’d like to do later in life: Teach college or high school, raise more ducks, motorcycle, live in another country for a while

Family: Married 21 years. Two kids, Eric (17) and Ellen (15) usual kid pix available on RF here

Pets: Four cats, small flock of hens and ducks, mostly at local elementary school

Location: Atlanta - DeKalb County somewhere in limbo between Chamblee and Dunwoody

Origin of life view: If God wants to create us using evolution, that’s Her business.

Interests: Gardening and environmental issues, cooking, raising poultry for pets, reading anything with print on it, science, current issues. I hope someday to get back to motorcycling, but not in Atlanta.

Politics: Baha’is are forbidden to engage in partisan politics. I do vote, though, and I work as a poll manager in Georgia.

Religion: Raised Protestant, atheist for years, Baha’i for a couple of decades now.

I'm fond of crested ducks and runner ducks.

They really are very silly creatures. There's nothing quite like steering them around the yard for fun.

The short version is, as an atheist I embarked on a study of comparative religions. Along the way I noticed some very similar threads that kept running through them. Eventually I ran across one of the books by Bah'a'llah, Kitab-i-Iqan (Book of Certitude) that made sense of why all those religions were out there, why some things were the same and some not, and why we humans kept following religions all these years. I came to the conclusion that Baha'u'llah was what he claimed to be (a prophet), and so it would be rather dumb not to follow, once coming to such a conclusion. That was over 20 years ago.

I love your latest sig line. Since adopting Grace I usually introduce myself by saying "My name was Laurie." With the corollary that I used to wear white. Actually, my days of wearing white again draw nigh. Talk about being dying and being reborn, for me having children was very much like this.

Apparently I can't hold out hope for recovering my mind, but perhaps someday soon I will remember my name.

I'd be wearing white right now if it weren't for my bottle of Loreal Champagne Blonde.

I'm not quite olde enought to have senior moments, but I have plenty of maternal moments.

I now understand why mothers get to be so scatterbrained -- they're always juggling a dozen things at any time, and some things inevitably get dropped. I've been to the high school 4 times already today due to various teenage failures to plan, and wasn't even planning to leave the house. Whew!

I'm told that removing my old mercury amalgam fillings might help the memory come back again. Oh...a girl can hope!
