Yes, I know that I'm a looooong ways from ascending and am not even sure that I want to ascend. But I am still curious, what do you lose when you ascend and what do you get to keep and what do you gain? I would be very sad to lose my familiars; I've grown very attached to Asiago, Cheddar, and Guyere.

Your familiars start over as one pounders again . All but one , which you choose to keep at whatever weight it is at . But no , you don't loss them .
You loss all quest items . And you loss anything that is in your campground . Other then trophies , if you have them , and the items that are always in the campground . But that is about all that you loss . Everything else is put into Hagnk's Storage , and you can withdraw 20 items { 1000 meat equals one item ** , per day , for 600 turns at which point you can withdraw everything left there . You also can not recieve ANYTHING at all from other players for those 600 turns . This includes buying things from the mall or flea market , and includes buffs from other players . Other then that , you loss nothing , over then you levels . You start over as a first level character , in whatever class you choose . You get to choose one skill to keep from your old class , you recieve a gem { used to make some nice items ** , and you recieve a few drinks and a new tatoo . When you ascend , you also choose a star sign , which opens up one of three new areas . The Gnome Camp , Little Canada , and Under Knob's Knoll , which in turn , opens up new adventures , skills and items . So you don't loss that much , and the benifits far outwiegh the losts , I think . For excample , kreeden can now cook chew meins , AND mix top end cocktails . Or you could make a character that uses skills from the Turtle Tamer and Disco Bandit to have an outstanding item / meat finder . Add an Accordian Thief's skill or two , and you would have a character that rakes in the meat . A couple of notes : Hardcore characters restart with nothing { as far as I can tell ** , and can NOT withdraw any items will in hardcore , nor ever recieve any items or buffs from other players while in hardcore ... which is why they call it Hardcore . And as you will be lossing your Chef-in-a-box and Bartender-in-a-box , use them as much as possible before you ascend so that they blow up and you at lest get to take parts of them with you . ![]()

I love your familiars! (Can't wait until you get the goat one!)
If my other character finally is able to defeat the NS (Naughty Sorceress), she will, apparently, have the option to ascend. As far as I know, most (maybe all) of your stuff goes into storage, and you can then take out only a certain amount each turnover. I don't think you lose your familiars, but (again, only if the rumors are to be believed) I believe they go down to one pound. You're able to access a bunch of new areas, but you can't recieve buffs, items, or meat from other players. (Which is why I keep getting an error message when I forget this and try to buff Kreeden, hehee!) There's a general guide here and a guide with spoilers here.

Major spoilers there Feathers .
But yes , I checked them out before I ascended . And they are very helpfull . Only ONE of the new areas opens up . You have to choose which one you want to adventure in . Which makes it interesting as each has it's own offerings .

I think I'll keep my Empathy, as it seems most handy for helping myself and others out. I've decided on my zodiac sign, but I'm not sure what class I should go with. Any suggestions?

600 turns? Does that mean that your recently ascended character can't take anything from the clan stash either? Quote:
I spent the other half of my adventures and a good deal of meat buying gum and string and fishing junk out of the sewer, looking for a seal tooth, until I finally remembered that at level 5 I am allowed to enter the mall, where I easily bought one for 100 meat. On the bright side, I've got a mess of worthless trinkets to trade with the hermit for 10-leaf clovers when they show up again. ![]()

But the game really changes once you can use the mall . ![]()

However Empathy is a good choice too . Personally , I would likely take Amphibian Sympathy over it though , as it is passive . True , my choice would only help my familiars out , but at 15 MP a shot , I would assume that Empathy wqould have it's limited also . { but skills increase familiar wieght by 5 pounds ** . As for class ? It depends upon what you see your character doing in the future . For excample , kreeden wants to open his own night spot , serving great food and killer cocktails . So he took Disco Bandit for the cocktail skill , and will be taking Sauceror so he can make the top end foods . He may also take a class or two to beef up his item drops ... not sure which will come first ? Kree on the other hand is a fighter . He will remain a fighter ... basically . But he took Pastamancer just because I HATE eating stirfries when you can dooble their effects just by adding noodles . Accordian Tief skills would go well with Empathy or Sympathy .... very well indeed . Coldfront lists the class skills here .... |
