The Enemy Within! (choice, America, mission, preach, prophet)

Alsalam Alikum everyone,

The Enemy Within! is the title of a program i'm organizing this weekend at my univeristy. It will consist of two main phases:

Phase 1: Islam is beyond the masjid.

I have some ideas for this phase:

- Do we practice what we preach?
- Do we have a solid knowledge in religion compared to other branches of knowledge?
- Did we become just a machine suitable for living only and nothing else?

For this phase, i invited a doctor in religion in my univeristy as a speaker.

Phase 2: Student role in the society.

Some ideas:

- Contribution to the society, compared to other nations.
- Can we change something?
- Are we so defensive and apologist till we forgot self criticism and we focused on blaming others?
- Are we able to generate solutions for our problems?

And for this one, i invited a doctor in economics as a speaker, also in my univeristy, and he told me that he is writing a book about this topic, with the help of some of his friends in America where he was teaching for many years.

I really need your help in case you have any ideas to add to these topics in order to enrich this program, because there will be a long discussion with the audiance--students, lecturers, etc--after a short speech by each speaker.

Therefore, if you have any comment either in the name of my topics or my ideas then please don't hesitate to correct me and add to it before this weekend.

Truth, this looks great. it is important to remind young people that faith is a choice and a way of life, not a label or banner. this is especially important in Islam...

That is a great idea Truth, however as well as the focus on the student aspect because I know you are speaking to your fellow students, focus also on it as a nonstudent. What I mean to say is focus if possible on what change can be effected even when they are no longer students. Also I believe you have covered such a large range of topics already. Each one a person can speak at length about, so the more you add the less time you will have to spend on each facet of discussion. I would say leave it as it is and/or condense it so that you can have adequate speaking time, and also q&a if thats a part of the program.

for phase one ,may i suggest an extra question ? :

do we have a written life mission ? a clear vision for our lives ?do we have any idea about our talents and what we are capable of going ?and what is the (part) where we can serve islam best and excel over others ?(this is one question,but i couldn't it phrase it better than that )

many muslims think that this has nothing to do with islam ,what does one's career has anything to do with islam ? what does islam has to do with achievement ,planning and time management ?

but wallahy this is what islam is all about ,in case we have a good intention "neya " for allah ,
the prophet (Pbuh)made Usama "RAA" the head of the army while he was only 18 years old , and among his soldiers were abu bakr and umar ,
He asked Zaid ibn thabit to learn the language of the jews while he was only 14 or 15 years ,in order to protect the quran from their tricks,
and belive it or not , Zaid learned it in a couple of weeks !! , Why ? , because Islam was infront of his eyes all the time


- Can we change something?

as an answer to this question, i would like to use a living example ,a group of students gathered to do some charity and volunteer work at cairo university_faculty of engineering , and callled themselves (REsAlA) " a message " ,

the problem is sometimes exactly the opposite , are we over self critics to the degree that we aren't able to see any good within ourselves and our societies ? to the degree that we become negative and lose hope ?

self critism is good within limits ,but when it exceeds its limits ,it's a curse ,
and this is almost what we are suffering from here in Egypt

Wow, thankssss. i'm really gratful for your feedback and sorry for being late. I had to rethink of the way we gonna present these issues and definitely your ideas helped me alot. Nevertheless, we just had to postpond the program, and i'll tell you about any updates later on "God willing".

Finally, coming back to action! The program is on again, next week God willing "Sunday" 20/1/2008.

I wanted to post the A3 poster we used in campus and around the university to advertise for our program. It's really cool, but the problem is that it's too big to upload. Sorry guys.
