Hello, new to these religion forums.
For someone who's entirely new to trying to understand the differences between Sunni and Shia, what's a good/easy to find book to get me started? Last edited by EBruns; 05-06-2007 at 07:26 AM. |

Hello and welcome to the forum
I would strongly recommend the following 2 links: 1- The first is an excellent 7 minute video by Sheikh Abdel Hakim Murad (Cambridge - UK) with the same title: The Difference between Sunni & Shia http://youtube.com/watch?v=iMhgt3JRqeU 2- The second is an answer from IOL titled Sunnis & Shiites: Politics From Start to Finish. This is a brief extract: The differences between Sunnis and Shiites are not new. However, what could be new is that many of today's scholars, and I agree with them, realize that these differences fall in two realms, namely, politics and fiqh, rather than in the realm of basics of faith. http://discover.islamonline.net/servlet/Satellite?pagename=IslamOnline-English-AAbout_Islam/AskAboutIslamE/AskAboutIslamE&cid=1173695386370

Well if you have the patience and the will to read a long comprehensive article then here is the link. … Again Warning long read… press next on the site for the continuation…
http://www.witness-pioneer.org/vil/A..._bin_talib.htm It all started when the Muslims transgressed against their own caliphate… then the evils of that, was allowed to spread out by the Muslims… who do I personally blame for this separation between Shia and Sunni? Both sides… they both got caught up in their own desire and forgot their real purpose… Last edited by neves; 05-07-2007 at 02:27 AM. |

In the European calander...Othman was killed at the year 656 on July 17... Othman became Caliphate on the year 644... So he was killed about 1350 years ago...

Masha'Allah. So during the time of 'Uthmaan (RAA), both the Sunni and shi'ite sect existed?

Not to my knowledge... this divide was a direct result of our own evils...

Wait. If those sects didn't exist back then, how can the divide be a direct result of "our own evils"? Whos evils exactly?

Take some time and read that full article... and try to digest what you read... see for yourself and get your own opinion...
