This guideline didn't seem to stop Muslim armies from waging wars of conquest against Christian lands in the Byzantine Empire and the Holy Land before the Crusades where they put whole towns to the sword for not converting to Islam.

This is grave assult on truth ! you should read some history instead of parroting the same old media lies about Islam.

On the contrary my friend, I consider myself a history scholar and I have read about Islamic atrocities on my own. The media portrays a much softer image of Islam today mainly to quiet possible religious persecution of them as a result of 9/11. Indeed, I found it apalling they tried to white wash the entire beginning history of Islam saying it was peaceful from the start. Now I will admit that Christianity has had its rough and bloody times as well with all of the religious wars of Europe in the Medieval period. However, the view of a peaceful Islam is extremely new with our modern times and does not reflect the religion's early history of militarism.
