Still not even in my 20’s, one of the guys in our very active Christian high school club showed us one of those miniature Qur’ans, supplied with a magnifying glass.

I told him that we shouldn’t even touch those works of the Devil. Fortunately, he didn’t heed my advice. He is now Sweden’s first professor of Islamic studies.

Myself, I now own some 15 Qur’ans, including one copy each of every interpretation ever published in Swedish (from 1843 onwards) and my favourite, the 2 volume interpretation by A. Yusuf Ali. Wait, my real favourite is the one that seems to be hand written on parchment.

As to my favourite quote, that must be the one from Al-Baqara (II:256): “Yet there be no compulsion / In religion: Truth stands out” (A.Yusuf Ali)

For simple reading, I prefer the Palmer translation. It starts with this Surah:
THE CHAPTER OF THE OPENING
(I. Mecca.)
IN the name of the merciful and compassionate God. Praise belongs to God, the Lord of the worlds, the merciful, the compassionate, the ruler of the day of judgment! Thee we serve and Thee we ask for aid. Guide us in the right path, the path of those Thou art gracious to; not of those Thou art wroth with; nor of those who err.
(The Qur'an (E.H. Palmer tr), Sura 1 - The Opening)

Note that "God" is used instead of "Allah".
