It's funny to watch every election come and go with people talking about mandates or the "will of the people". Upon observation, apparently elections are won with the utmost apathy. No, we are not in danger of becoming a theocratic state at the moment. But while we do worry about such a state our liberty is being stripped away from us no matter who we elect. It's something else to watch a historic election between such two substandard candidates. |

CHARITY ~ I want YOUR def. of SEXUAL, I know what mine is. We have been a sexual nation for a long time, it just is getting out more in the open. From what I see around me most people are enjoying their sexually mostly in private but some out in the ovel office and they have children to prove it. I'm sure there has been more than one president that has run around a little or a lot.
But what does that have to do with the leaning of the nation towards religious rules and regulations imposed by the religious right? |

I have decided to give more detail to my post after thinking about it....First of all I used "Sexual Nation" as an example...I could have easily said a "Beer Nation" just symbolic in the fact that we can be called any kind of a nation considering that we probably do consume a large amount of beer....A Religious nation sure we have a lot of people saying we are founded on Religion...Maybe so, maybe not. As a child the only time I remember any religious reference in an election were my grandparents discussing the fact that John Kennedy was a Catholic. Even given the endorsement of any candidate from any religious organization doesn't make us a Religious Nation....Just because a pro football player endorses a certain beer, doesn't mean that he really prefers it, but because he is getting the benefit from the endorsement, when in private he prefers something else....I would imagine the same would go for religion, the candidate may get an endorsement from said Religious group, but that doesn't make him religious....So if he wins the election that wouldn't make us a religious nation just because of our candidate's endorsement from said religion..... That was my point in my reference to sexual nation....Need I make it any plainer or can you comprehend my meaning? ![]()

Thank You for your comments CHARITY. In my back ground as a SDA there was a lot of talk about voting for Kennedy because he was catholic and if he got into office then the catholic church might take over the nation according to the SDA church thoughts and writings. The religious right has a lot of sway in their voting block and they want to inject their religious concepts into the lives of others that are not of their religious ideas. Our country was built upon the seperation of church and state but it has gotten out of hand when a person has to stand up in front of church people and explain their concepts of their religious life to have them vote for him or her.
