Indian ascetics when talking about themselves use the term 'this body' (yah deha). Sure, 'this body' takes birth, spends a life-time, like the mighty plough bearer, Balarama, who became a woman when under Maya, in its pleasures and sorrows, and then it dies, dies, dies, dies, but does not die. You must have read the story.

Friend Aupmanyav,
Sorry cannot recall Balrama story however we do not require stories to know and understand that birth and death happens. They do happen even though itis maya then too the happennings have to be accepted in their suchness. Love & rgds |

Zenzero, sorrow and pleasures are there when we are tied down to suchness, otherwise there are none.

Aupmanyav,
Kindly understand: You write TIED DOWN meaning that when one is tied down to suchness that one experiences sorrow or pleasure. What is my realisation is that it is not that one is tied down it is the mind that is tied or attached that causes it. The focus here is the MIND. There is no individual it is the individual Mind and when the mind is dropped that one goes beyond both sorrow and pleasure that is the point of the centre of the pendulum when it is neither of the side and both the extremes are visible as just twp ends of the same pole. The thinking mind is the root cause of all happiness / unhappiness which as you say attaches itself with that suchness. By meditation one tries to get the mind to that state where it [mind] is not thinking then the individual at those times becomes fully alert /aware / concious. Ratherthe individual is no more he becomes a part of the whole and the individual becomes a flow. Love & rgds |

I would phrase it a bit differently. Meditation gets the mind to realize that pleasures and sorrows are just phases of life, so that we are able to handle them better. And as you said, beyond life, is the essential unity of all things that we percieve (we call it Brahman). 'Purnamadah, Purnamidam, ..'. |
