Ahimsa does not mean that we cannot stand up in self-defense or stand up for a just cause. Arjuna showed us that we must stand up for what is right even if it means that we have to go against our relatives. Arjuna's relatives were also fighting against Shri Krishna who was an avatar of God. Why did they not choose to be on the side of the Lord? Even Shri Ram demonstrated this fighting nature when his wife was kidnapped.

Good reply there dear Hema!
In sanatan tradition, the best book on spiritualism, to attain the ultimate stage...is "Patanjali Yogasutra" What is the "very first" verse of that book where he defines Yog? Last edited by Milind2469; 04-05-2007 at 09:15 AM. |

I came across: http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.js...81474976930098 "Maharishi Patanjali's Yog Sutras is the best known treatise on the Hindu system of meditation. The Sutras begin with a definition of Yog and then go on to explain how Yog can be attained. "Yog" has the meanings of "union", "integration", "merger" etc. The purpose of Yog is to achieve union of the human soul with the Universal Soul called Paramatama, literally "The Supreme Soul". Yog is also intended to integrate the individual to his environment, to the society in which he lives and to other souls in a spiritual sense. At another level, Yog is the integration of the emotions and the intellect, the healthy functioning of the body with the healthy functioning of the mind and an integrated balance between desires and their fulfilment. In this way, the word Yog has several levels of meaning. Yog is not just the physical postures for attaining flexibility of body, as many tend to believe. The physical postures are, in fact, only a preparatory stage which makes the body fit for the mental and spiritual exercises."
