To any of you who suffer, or have suffered depression, do you ever get into what feels like uncontrolable rages ? - how do you deal with them if you do ?

I have them quite a bit and usually end up punching the walls, which is really quite childish.

Rebecca told me that one of her doctors told her to go to yard sales, buy some cheap dishes and cups and such. When you get to that point where you want to hit or lash out, take those dishes and smash them against a wall. It will release your aggression, giving you an outlet. You can then take a broom and sweep up your anger.

I used to deal with them violently by attacking other people though always provoked. Now I have convinced myself that it is more satisfying to not stoop to their level, to defuse a situation without ever having to raise a hand.
I can feel the build up happen still but I always manage to cut it off before it gets to the stage where I want to hurt another, at least physically. Pretty soon it will be 3 years since I last lost my temper .

Are there any other feelings or sensations you feel at the time ? - perhaps a sence of time slowing down, or a slow - talking voice ? - I understand it's not unusual.

When I get uncontrolable rage I either become extremely irritable and sometimes end up in verbal fights (usually with people I deeply care about - not good), or I just try to write, be it just my thoughts or a short story or some poetry, doesn't have to be any good, just to get calmed down. I cry, too. And sometimes I revert to self-mutilation. Not proud of it, but works for me - and I've really "cut" back on that since getting on meds. So I guess I can be proud of that.

But I don't know if I'd like the whole sweeping up after. ![]() I don't really feel a whole lot else or hear a talking voice or anything. But I guess if there was a voice, I would just be to plain angry to hear it. I think usually I am just so angry and all I do is focus on the anger and tell myself over and over in my head (could that be the voice? ) how stupid I am and/or the world is/people in my life are, etc. and just go off from there.Last edited by standing_alone; 12-15-2005 at 07:23 PM. |

I have a few holes in my bedroom wall from my rage fits. Some of them were punched in, some where kicked, and one was from when the first thing I grabbed, which happened to be a bop-it, was launched into my wall and made a hole in the wall in the room next to mine.
