I was not aware that Gnosticism had any iconic symbol, other than those found in their literal motifs.

well, they have an octogram of creation (something about aeons....)

gnosis snake, biting its tail (snake to gnosis, circle, the one)

lots of circles. (completion, the one)

a cross that looked like a plus sign (equal to balance male and female powers)

It's called oroboros (sp?) isn't it? I think it's a neat symbol. I didn't know it was gnostic, but I can see why.

it was found on some of the gnostic writings of the 1st century and whatnot... i can look more up on it for you if you like.... i have a book that explains it.

I actually thought about getting the snake tattooed somewhere on me.... but I'll have to think about it some more....

It would make a very nice upper arm piece, right on the cap of the shoulder. For round tattoos, you should look for round parts of the body. It would also look nice on the side of the upper calf.

No problem. One of the side effects of having worked as a tattoo artist that I can't keep my mouth shut about them.

I think some kind of symbol involving a stone and a piece of wood would be good for modern Gnosticism, from the famous saying in Thomas.
