"The dead are not alive and the living will not die."

"During the days when you ate what is dead, you made it alive.
When in the light, what will you do?"

"On the day when you were one, you became two.
But when you become two, what will you do?"

Fine, i'll discuss what you've posted... but i hope you know this hurts my brainhole and what I have to say is probably wrong on many, many levels.

(I do, by no means, believe that I can solve these riddles for anyone. The opinions and views expressed on these up-comming posts are mine and mine alone. As i've already stated, I truly dont feel like explinations can be made that accuratley describe the feelings these passages bring out in me.)

"This heaven will pass away and the one above it will pass away."

Heaven is nonexistant. All material and immaterial things that have been done will be undone. All that is, is not... and really, all that is, already is, was, and will be.....forever, AND never (all things are possible in One)

"The dead are not alive and the living will not die."

I never take anything literally when thinking in Gnostic texts, especailly Thomas's Gospel. Yeshua was trying so hard to wake them up from their sleep. *sigh* So, yes, if you MUST take this literally, (as the majority of Yeshua's desciples did at this time) the first section "the dead are not alive" makes sense because of course the dead cannot live. But if you continue to take it literally, as an anthromorphic hylic, for the second half, you start to be confused.... which is the passages goal. *smiles*

Only when we're disturbed with our understanding of the this quote can we take a step back and see the bigger, hidden picture within the message. So you'd probably ask me, "what IS that message Ashley?" ....Just read it again if you want to know.

Questions for you (assuming Being and Living are the same): Are you among the living? What does it MEAN to BE?

It's a constant cycle. Constantly caving in on itself, timeless, and without human literalist understanding. Seeing the light/gnosis/silence/one we may be too shocked and disturbed to do anything. Is there a "self" within the light? Asking what "you" would do is an ironically rhetorical question. Apparently pointless, but actually meaningful on many levels. (dont ask me to list them unless you wanna make a list yourself )

"On the day when you were one, you became two.

But when you become two, what will you do?"

Identity. That's all I've been able to come up with for this one. Being one, we became two, falling from our harmonious gnosis. To realize that we've become separated from our perfect one... for some it would be too shocking to truly grasp. You realize that getting back to Silence is really what matters. *(well, maybe just me) Such realizations and thoughts can lead people to insanity, or to awareness of the ignorant imbalance we've fallen into. The actions to be taken? That's all on a personal level.

Solve for Gnosis.

My interpretation of this is that heaven, whether it be a physical realm or a state of mind, is not ever-lasting. Anything created can be uncreated, the only constant is The One.
I like yours better Ash, if i could steal it, i would.

I think its something like a Zen koan, an abstract thought designed to shift the mind into a different state of understanding. In this case it is designed to get people to think about what it actually means to be alive or dead, and how this relates to The One.

When you were unenlightened/without gnosis, you took in knowledge and brought it to life through understanding. This eventually allowed you to gain gnosis. When enlightened/in the light you no longer need to feed as you already contain the fullness of understanding. At this stage you will feed others.

"On the day when you were one, you became two.
But when you become two, what will you do?"

Yeah, i don't get this one yet - too many interpretations.
The best i've come up with is we were once of The One, but now we are divided into material and spiritual, and these two parts of ourselves are constantly fighting for superiority. Our goal is to unite these two halves and become one again.

Thanks! It makes MUCH more sense now! (i was so confused at that part *blushes* although I hate confessing it)

Kinda makes me wonder what stage i'm at *shifty eyes*

Obviously you cant feed those whose minds are not already hungry... and a search for gnosis would ultimatley lead them towards this direction. Usually when people ask about Gnostics though I dont say much because I dont want to confuse them or let them misunderstand. (as anthromorphics have a tendency to do) So I tell them that it's best not to look into it, and that it's stupid.

I dont think i'm being a very good shepherd to the sheep... but then again, I'm no gnostic priest, and i think its best that people find the answers on their own. I guess i'd rather show people how gnostics are than actually tell them what we believe.

I think you are totally 100% right.
In my experience, people will only listen to answers if they are looking for them. Those with their minds already made up (which i guess mine is, but i do try hard to keep it as open as possible) generally are unreceptive.

I remember (vaguely) reading that advanced Buddhists, when asked questions that they couldn't answer in words just stayed silent. I guess that's the best option.

It is a great try.

The last saying/riddle still have me baffle, about the 1-into-2. So your explanation make sense. I had forgotten that one of the problems that we had became divided with our "self" (or our gnosis).
