Lightbulb Opposites

So about a year ago I started on my road to Gnostic discovery. I began with a Philosophy book that discussed gnostic concepts. Next, i found the Gospel of Mary by chance, because it happened to have a foreward written by the philosopher I respected so much. I read Mary's Gospel and was convinced that the truth lay in the Nag Hammadi Library. I picked up "the Gnostic Gospels of Jesus" by Mervin Meyer because I found it in an airport bookstore by chance. I was obsessed with anything having the word "gnostic" in it. It would take me half a year to actually get my hands on the BIG Gnostic Bible with all the scripture written in it.

While I was searching through "the Gnostic Gospels of Jesus" I found that I had some questions... and i wrote them down inside the book. (big sacreligious...oops) Most of them come from the Gospel of Philip. I still dont really have them answered, so I thought i'd present them to all of you and see what you make of them:

1) There is a section in the Gospel of Philip called "Light and Darkness." It discusses the relationships from light to dark, life to death, life to life, death to death, left and right, etc. It made me think, "Does everything have an opposite?"
2) The very next section in the same Gospel talks about "Words and Names." I had always thought that if people pray, it should be silent meditation because communicating in the language we know couldn't possibly mean anything to him. Words are all too common and misused for me to use them with the God I worship. Last year, one teacher said, "If you dont pray out loud, then God will not listen to your prayers, and you arent praying correctly." **** that! I read more in Philip where it said, "If words belonged to the eternal realm, they would never be pronounced in this world, nor would they designate worldly things." My theories were confirmed. (this wasnt a question, more of a story)
3) This verse from Philip states what many have thought for a long, long time: "The master [would] not have said, 'My [father who is] in heaven,' if [he] did not also have another father. He would simply have said, 'my father.'"

thats all for now....

That was quite interesting of how you became involved in Gnosticism.

Praying in silence is interesting too.

Yes, yes I did, because:
a = not, without
gno = knowledge
