Hi there,
I've been lucky enough to experience what I would rate as mystical states (not accessible to descriptive language) through my understanding of Buddhist practice. I've also done a lot of study into the brain, and studied philosophical issues in matters of the mind. At the conclusion of all this, I am left a contemplative observer of my own consciousness on a daily basis. One conclusion I've drawn from this journey is that ordinary woken/awake consciousness is no less mysterious than any mystical experience I can draw upon. I'd be interested to hear from others that have undergone a similar journey, of which I am convinced there are many on these forums as to the validity of the premise in the OP. Aussie Non-Buddhists welcome to comment on their own journey here.

Hi Ozzie,
There have been times, especially when surfing or on the mountains, that I have had experiences that I think could be described as mystical. Ordinary consciousness may be no less mysterious but in my case it also holds a longing to actually be in that extraordinary way.

I wish
![]() Nope, I have the ability to feel these things but I'm resigning myself to the fact that I can't understand them.

Have you delegated your ability to understand ordinary consciousness?

That is not to say that no-body ever will. However I don't see it happening soon, for starters I think we probably need some new words to attach to the plethora of phenomena currently designated as 'consciousness'.

I was just asking what makes an experience 'mystical'?

Hi, thank you for posting this.
I have recently had a what I have called a moment of supreme clarity, perhaps it is possible to call it a "Mystical" experience, as it was a transcendental experience of the Self. Now i find myself in a situation very similar to what you are describing as when I use thought process, it always comes from an analytical vewpoint of the observer. Having this ability to observe the I am in its integrated separative action also has given me a higher form of awareness, where every seemingly mundane experience becomes something that in my previous state i would identify as remarkable, outstanding experience..
