Default Is the afterlife accessible through natural means?
Assuming that there is an afterlife, a heaven and a hell, is it possible to get there if we were sufficiently advanced? Could we build a rocket, go through a portal and end up in heaven? What would the implications be if we could move between life and the afterlife in this way?

If not, where are heaven and hell that they are not accessible? Is it purely God's will that we should not be able to do this or is there some other barrier that would prevent us even if it were not for God?

Well there must be some extra process that happens after or as we die that actually takes us to the afterlife and that seems to be unnatural since every single bit of us that is naturally identifiable clearly stays here on earth regardless of whether we are alive or dead. The bit that leaves is either currently undetectable or unnatural.

If we could go to this supposed place in this life, it would not be termed the "after" life.

well, i think our consciousness is detectable to a certain extent, cogito ergo sum and all that, but we can't prove what happens to our consciousness after our biological self has died - it is the 'what happens to that consciousness after death' that my belief in the afterlife is based upon.
