Unless you're an atheist, in which case God isn't one of the limitless possibilities.
As far as the evolution of the God-concept, just read the Bible. Early on, God is little more than a tribal deity. The God of the NT is much more sophisticated, having evolved into a universal Father. The God-concept is still evolving, often by the prodding of scientific advances forcing the expansion ideas. Example: compare the Bible to The Urantia Book. The adaptability of the God-concept makes it unlikely that it will go away, especially in view of things like the OP. The "Old Man in the Sky" atheists refer to is obsolete, even childish, but like so many things, universal acceptance of new concepts is gradual, as evidenced by the fact some people don't like cell phones. God's a possibility, alright, just not an actuality.

When you say this, are you referring to the fact that the Bible was initially edited in terms of what books would be retained, and which were excluded, or are you speaking of some other, mysterious meaning?

Good answer, Azakel. As a pagan, I'd be disapointed if it were otherwise.

![]() Edit: You don't have to take my word for it--Bible scholars also see the evolution of the God-concept in the Bible. Last edited by Rolling_Stone; 07-03-2008 at 01:59 PM. |
