My father once said that if he ever opened a bank that he would want to hire Jehovah Witnesses as his tellers. He felt that they are honest and that he wouldn’t have to worry about employees stealing. Now I know it is unethical to ask someone their religion when they are applying for a job but does anyone suspect that if an employer knows the employee that is applying for a job that their religious morality could play a strong role in securing a job position?

That is generalization to me. While it is true that most of the JWs I have known are kind people and honest, I wouldn't want to put my complete faith into that. He may hire a JW who just happens to be dishonest and he would be more taken than if he hired someone he thought may be dishonest because his guard would be down.
Once on MASH, Dr. Freedman (the psychiatrist who visited sometimes) was talking to Father Mulcahy that he knew why they would give a Priest the job of being in charge of people's property while they were in the hospital. Father Mulcahy replied that a dishonest priest would make out like a bandit. There is a lesson there. ![]() As to the question at hand-- There are moral atheists and immoral and amoral theists. But maybe some people may not know that and hire someone they think may be more honest.

Being of any religion does not support the assumption that you are morally better than anyone else....A religious person should represent honesty, and show the basic characteristics of their beliefs. Unfortunately this isn't always true...I have known preachers who have lied and comitted vile acts, adultery, child molestation and etc. This is the exception to the rule, but it isn't logical to exclude someone from a good job because of religious afilliation.

Interesting. I know that I have been hired because they knew I was a Boy Scout as a kid. Even today, my association with the Scouts opens up doors.

Cardero & all -
As someone with recent hiring responsibilities, we are legally constrained from applying any such criteria in our hiring choices. In fact, mention of religion on a resume or during the interview process is to be ignored, and is very rarely seen. It would probably be looked upon as rather unprofessional, to boot. I have seen both highly desirable and highly undesirable candidates who were very religious (in a number of faiths), and highly desirable and highly undesirable candidates who were completely irreligious. In my profession (engineering work) religious affiliation or lack thereof doesn't seem to be an indicator in either direction of employee desirability.

Would you trust someone who does not attend church, but does a lot of charity work and has a happy family? Non religious people donate money and have healthy families too you know.
