God a crutch for the weak?
I've heard it said that only the weak believe in a God. That may be true for some, but in my personal experience God is a challenge. Anyone who's ever tried living the Christian life knows that it's far from easy... in fact I can safely say it's the most difficult thing I've ever tried to do... come to think of it, I've never managed it.
So to anyone who considers the faithful to be weak, I say you should walk a mile in their shoes before comming to such a conclusion.

A lot of theists I know are incredibly strong in either or both body and mind.

I've heard the "crutch theory" before, of course, and I don't buy it. The people I know who seem to me genuinely religious or spiritual very seldom come across to me as inclined towards using religion as a crutch.

a religion is only a crutch if you use it like one els its a key able to open new doors of insight

The best thing I can use to describe God is this (I know many of you have read this):
One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord. Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky. In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand. Sometimes there were two sets of footprints, other times there were one set of footprints. This bothered me because I noticed that during the low periods of my life, when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat, I could see only one set of footprints. So I said to the Lord, "You promised me Lord, that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of my life there have only been one set of footprints in the sand. Why, when I needed you most, you have not been there for me?" The Lord replied, "The times when you have seen only one set of footprints in the sand, is when I carried you." I have to admit, when I am feeling weak he is definatly my crutch.

God could never be a crutch for the weak, because the weak wouldn't last in this battle.....It takes a very strong person to endure all the persecution that is inflicted on us.... Christianity is not for the weak or faint hearted.
