And you intend to do that by debate?

My personal intention in this thread is to understand the mentality of others with different views, and to attempt a greater understanding of religion than i already hold.

If you are Christian please answer the following questions with your first post. If any other Christian or non Christian disagrees with a response please quote the concept/Idea you disagree with.
What is God to you?
not really my creator, an adopted chosen Father link
Quote:
How sure are you that God exists? Why?

I know He exists, He has spoken to me.
Quote:
Do you follow/act morally in context of your belief in the Christian faith?

I am a convert. I have drastically changed my life as a result of my faith.

(optional)Post any other info you believe proves your religion.

Proof? It is not for one person to prove to another, it is a personal choice - God only allows you to find Him through your own free agency.

Not forced into believing because of evidence,
choose to believe.

Some Personal Background info(skip it if you want):
Quote:
I was born as a Mormon (went to church every week) and i believed in God as a child.
Did you really believe in God - or did you just believe what your parnets told you about Him? Perhaps you never believed in God at all, your lack of faith is not in Him, but rather in your parents, and in your church....

Quote:
Also most of my relatives are hardcore Mormon.
God has no grandchildren, only sons and daughters. Your testimony can only be your own, it cannot be inherited...

I turned Agnostic in 6th grade, later at the beginning of 12th grade i changed my views to a form of existential Atheism not so far from the Agnostic views i once held, began to extensively study metaphysics, and started to center my ideas on religion.
Good for you - thinking for yourself. A word of advice - as you study the different religions - separate the ideas from any attachment to your family - set everything on equal grounds, do not let others influence your opinion of any of it one way or another... there is a scripture about leaving your father and your mother, your life cannot be dictated by them, if you join any religion is has to be of your own free will and choice, not out of obligation to another. It is frustrating when others take credit for your faith - makes you want to rebel just to prove to them that your mind is your own, that they do not control what you believe - once you have proved that to yourself, you are free to explore unimpeded by others wants or desires for you.

Quote:
Also feel free to ask any questions you may have for me.
Honestly, do you think it is possible for you to study the LDS faith without attaching it to your family? Are you able to separate the ideas from the people that are probably pushing you towards it? ... Your religious choice has to be unattached to the people around you - you cannot think "I choose to go against my parents will" or "I choose to follow my parents will" For once, it has to be nothing about your parents or anyone else's will, it has to just be your will free of anything that others would or would not have for you... not trying to prove that you will not follow their will, not proving that you will follow their will, the two have to be completely disconnected with one another - does that make sense?

There are many who have experienced an "auditory phenomenon". Might I add that I was not on drugs or any medications, that I have no mental illness conditions. I have a PhD in engineering, not to brag, just to say I do have a functioning brain... You grew up LDS so you have heard plenty of people share their experiences. Of course, you can only know for sure what you personally experience, it is still your free will and not a question of proving anything with evidence...
