No, it's not excommunication. They are not following church doctrine. That in effect, makes them not Catholic. You can't pick and choose what you believe and don't believe about the Catholic Church and it's teachings. It's a package deal, all or nothing.

Have we? I don't remember that, but if you say so. Read my post, otherwise I wouldn't address what I did or didn't say. I said that in the case of my parents' church and at least one other that I've been a part of, which are both Catholic, don't teach it to that extreme. Also, do you have to abide by everything they teach? Is it not OK to use your own reason to decide things for yourself?

Right. In other words, believe all of this or believe none of it. If you do not believe all of it you're not "cool" like us. This is why people get the idea that the Church teaches belief without thinking.

No, not at all. You're free to believe whatever you want, just don't call yourself Catholic if you don't believe it all.

What if you think that everything else is right about the Catholic Church, except for this one thing, and this thing contradicts something else, so it seems impossible to you to believe it along with everything else? Should you call yourself 99.5% Catholic?

Don't you think he would have addressed the issue if it was that big a deal? I'm sure there was homosexual activity going on at the time.

Hate" is a strong word. It is much different than "Don't like". Again, could you please provide me with quotes showing him making a whip and beating people with it?

So, why is it a big deal now, then? I meant big deal as in the action having dire consequences for whoever performed it, not as in it being widespread and open to the world. I would think that if it would have the consequences you claim it would, then Jesus would have spoken about it.

All right. Now can you show me where he beat them? All I see is him making a "scourge of small cords" and then chasing them and overthrowing tables. I don't see any mention of beating.
