First of all, I don't hate Christianity. I think it's interesting that you assume that from me saying that Christianity started the Crusades. They might have found another difference, but that's a weak argument. That's like saying that you could help some drug addict to get off the drugs, but why bother? They'll just find something else to ruin their lives. I don't think that religion is the cause of hate. I think it promotes hate sometimes, though, which leads to bad things like the Crusades. That is not to say that other things don't also promote hate and cause bad things, but that's irrelevant right now. Some small minds need precious little to focus their hate on, but that's a minority of people who are involved in things like the Crusades. The majority take their cues from this minority and from the promotion of such things be religion.

If modern Christians do not interpret Jesus to reflect the modern world, shouldn't they be living as a sort of Jewish sect?

You would think they would considering he explicitly told the people to follow all the laws and they'd be blessed....and not to teach other to not follow the laws......but those who didn't follow the law or taught others to not follow the law would not be blessed.....

Pete is hyper focused on hate right now. What I see is hatred for the Conservative movement. There are precious few on RF who agree with me on most issues. I enjoy the banter and well thought out debate. I believe while we disagree on many things, most of us do not have hate in our heart.

That said, I don't believe you can cherry pick your dogma. Religion is a package deal.

You take your whopper the way God intended it to be taken or you eat some place else.
