According to wikipedia, Malteasers are pretty much the British equivalent of Whoppers. Malteasers are also made by Mars, who also make M&Ms, which would explain the recycled slogan

Well, I do like Whoppers better than plain M&Ms. (But I like peanut and almond M&Ms better than Whoppers.)

The slogan doesn't really make sense for Whoppers, since I'm quite sure that if I held a Whopper in my hand for a little while, the stuff on the outside that passes for chocolate would melt.

"I like them better" has a nice sound to it. Slightly child-like, as it should be when discussing yer favourite sweets.
