I could certainly agree with you that the women need counseling and therapy before they are given their children. They all need to be removed from this environment. I just think you might be underestimating their obstacles with regard to escaping and/or protecting their children.

I don't know how accurate this number can be since many girls do not have birth certificates, but last count was that 31 of 53 girls between 14 an 17 have babies or are pregnant. Prior to the raid, hundreds of young men and boys had been kicked out on the street with little education or knowledge of the outside world because they are competition for the older men. People who have been born into this have no choice and have very little chance of escaping. They do not have the same civil liberties as the rest of the country - their community is run by a "prophet". The former prophet had over 100 wives and is now in prison for multiple charges of being an accomplice to rape and awaits trial for other charges. Does this not tell us anything? Prior to his capture he sent many children under the age of 6 to YFZ without their parents. He also excommunicated many male members and re-assigned their wives and children to other men in the community.

If these are just normal families, why is it that those who have escaped FLDS applaud Texas for what they are doing?

Please include a trustworthy site where you got this information from. All the news articles I have seen have said nothing more than a couple of teens and one phone call. If you have names and actual evidence, then great. If this is just rumors, and "I don't know how accurate this is" than don't post it.

If you google "FLDS 31 out of 53" quite a few articles come up, though some may be the same. Here is an example from the Associated Press:

The reason I said I don't know how accurate the number is is because it is my understanding that they don't have birth certificates for all of these girls, so I don't know if this is estimated or definite, you know what I mean?

I would encourage you to read some of the books out there with first hand accounts of life within FLDS. There are awful things going on in there. It may sound unfair to you, but to me it is irrelevant how many are pregnant or if the call was a hoax. They need to investigate what is going on in there.

You do realize that not all of the men in the FLDS Church (remember this stretches far more then just the YFZ ranch in Texas) are not abusive, do not marry underage girls, etc? Again, you are lumping them all together when it is most certainly not the case.

It's so sad to see that you want to separate the mothers from their infant children, their toddlers, their teenagers. In a time like this, these children don't need strangers, they need their mothers, not their fathers, but their mothers. Apparently you don't think mothers are all that important, I guess Sister Beck's talk didn't influence you that much.

Personally, I think Texas has handled this very well considering this seems to have stemmed from a prank phone call. Nonetheless, I am a strong advocate of the due process of law. I believe given the attention given the case that due process is being followed as described in the U.S. Constitution and Texas Constitution and law. Even though this mess started from a sick telephone prank playing woman who should be thrown in a padded cell or behind bars, now the FLDS soap opera must play itself out. I hope that non criminal mothers and fathers are reunited with their children soon. I pray these families get support, even from the LDS Church, to get physical, psychological, and educational needs made. Not everyone involved is a criminal in this compound. But there are enough scum among them that it needs to be sorted out and prosecuted to the full extent of the law be they men or women who knowingly submitted their underage sons and daughters to this garbage.
