I am not celibate, so can't say for sure. I think that for most people, the most important thing in their life is their intimate loving relationship with a single other person, and to live without that would be less fulfilling than to live with it. As human beings, our love/sex drive is very strong and can be a healthy and beneficial thing, so I think it could be very limiting to cut oneself off from that.

I have heard of some people who have chosen a life of spiritual dedication over a life of personal intimacy, and without knowing more about it, would not want to judge that is not fulfilling for them. I don't know any personally. It's hard to imagine, though, don't you think?

For me it's not so much sex as a true dedicated intimate loving relationship that included physical passion. For me, that's the most fulfilling. I wouldn't want to speak for others, though. I do think my approach is the more common one.

Well, this is one of those things we are just not going to agree on. IMHO, I don't think having a celibate life means it's a less fulfilling life. After all, if you haven't had sex, how could you know what you are missing?

Because as Paul said its better to marry than burn with desire..You dont have to actually have sex to know you crave it and want it..

That's for sure. I knew a very sad man once who was in his 30s and had never been loved. He was a complete wreck. Eventually he shot himself in the head, but thankfully failed to die. Unfortunately, failing at suicide brought his self-esteem even lower than failing at sex.

It's easy for people who have had a taste of physical intimacy, or at least the opportunity to taste it, to say they could take it or leave it.

Yeah right..And if only those that have had sex know what they are missing ??No one would have sex for the first time..We have sex because our bodies(or most of us) crave it ..Whether we know exactly what its going to be like or not..and in fact there are some that crave it..and then have it?...subsequently are more likely to say they can take it or leave it than someone who has never experienced it..
