I think people are getting carried away with heat of this argument here. What I heard rheff saying is that the Catholic church makes a distinction between the person and the act. rheff is absolutely right; that is the standard position of the Catholic church. Love the sinner; hate the sin. Whether one agrees with it or not (and I don't); he's not wrong about the position of his church.

In order to debate my church's beliefs, I think we should have some common ground, or a BASIC understanding of christianity, which she obviously doesn't have.

Oh, you're mistaken. I have a very good understanding of Christianity, probably better than most Christians. I also have a better understanding of Judaism and other world religions than the average Christian. I just happen to disagree with you.
