1) Your spouse thinks that it is for the best to get a divorce, but you don't want one.

2) Your best friend is Job. He lost his entire family, money, and reputation, and is suffering from boils all over his body. What is your advice to him?

I can not ever know what you are suffering..Maybe one day I will..In the meantime I am your friend and I am here for you..Whatever I have is yours as well..I would offer him shelter..food..and friendship...As well as medical attention within my means to sooth his skin...

We are all searching..I personally do not believe what you are doing is healthy and in fact not what I would do..But dont be afraid to talk me about it and whats going on in your life..I love you and I always will.....

Do I like him? If so, I'd talk to him and possibly hold his hand. If not, I'd be somewhere else.

Suggest counseling, and if that doesn't work, or if they refuse, then accept it, though it breaks your heart. You can't hold people against their will.

I don't think advice is what he needs. Comfort, or -- failing that -- at least company is what he needs.

If the house is tidy and I don't have anything better to do, I might invite them in. Most of the time, I just say, "Thank you, but I'm not interested." Honestly, the last time missionaries came to our door (we get them fairly often), I was standing in the hallway in my underwear, having just painted the hallway, and was about to go take a shower, so I told John to answer the door. He refused.

"I don't want to talk to any Mormons."
"Well, at least answer the door and say something to them. You can't just leave them standing there."
"No. You do it."

So we just left them standing there till they gave up.

Just try to make him comfortable and hold his hand, I guess. It's hard for me to picture. My grandfather died suddenly, and was not the type to tell you about his fears, doubts, and pains, anyway. My great-grandfather also died suddenly, and was not the type to experience fears and doubts. I'm sure that if he was aware he was dying, he was looking expectantly for his wife (who died six months earlier) and a host of angels to welcome him.

I would try to convince him/ her to give the marriage another chance. If s/ he accepted that, I would try to understand their dissatisfaction, take responsibility for my part in it, and make fixing it a top priority. If all that failed, I would let them go.
