I think Santa serves as a good example of how easy it is for people to believe in imaginary, magical beings. I grew up believing in Santa. When my friends began to doubt, I had to many reasons and evidences that I had no doubts. Until I finally saw a present pre-Christmas that was given to me from Santa.

That led to me really question why I was so easily tricked. Not tricked in a bad way, but I was tricked nevertheless. I realized then that I really had wanted to believe that Santa existed so I biased myself to see evidence for him and dismissed any evidence against him. That led me to the realization that I had been doing the exact same thing with God/Jesus.

So I think Santa is a good example for kids to develop some skepticism about life and not believe everything they are told.
