I have a question regarding people who try and contact deceased relatives etc either through a medium or other means and many take a lot of comfort from it.
This has been practiced since mankind has been around, how do the different religions view this right or wrong and why? |

for us LDS this is of a sensitive and personal nature. and you do not need a "medium" in our view to communicate on certain levels with your ancestors. recently the craze of family history and other things of this nature stem from what we believe to be a biblical and doctrinal promise regarding the spirit of Elijah. who's promise was to "turn the hearts of the children to the fathers; and the hearts of the fathers to the children." This is why the LDS church goes to greath lengths to preserve and record Family history for anyone on the planet that will allow them access to family records.
In my faith we do not frown upon peopel communicating with thier ancestors, but we do frown on public displays of things we hold sacred. alot of TV shows i don't watch because i do not believe that people have this exclusive "ability" to talk to the deceased or communicate with the dead.

We do vicarious ordinances for the dead, if that's what you are referring to?! |

No, it's not, at least I don't think so. MH's post seemed to imply that there was some sort of communion ritual akin to a seance. Am I misreading?

We do not do anything even close to a seance. The only we do is vicarious ordinances for the dead. That's as close as you are going to get. ![]() |
