I wrote this last night, or really early this morning, I was wanting to see what people thought about it. Now keep in mind that I am not targeting the LDS faith or its people just the fake ones. I believe that this is true for all organized religions, not just the LDS faith, it just so happened to be experienced in that situation. I am sorry if this offends anyone but I had to write something about it and get reactions from people I know. Thanks!
I am writing this for two reasons, one is to vent and the other is to see what other people think of it. Now bear in mind that I am not LDS nor do I believe in any other religion, I believe in a higher power yet not in an organized group. I live well bearing in mind that what I do might have an effect in what my after life will be like. Why am I saying this you might ask? I am telling you this because I think that you need to know where I am coming from in order to see these things how I see them. Now currently I am a student up at Utah State University and in being up here you run into a lot of LDS people. (Not that that is a bad thing, my girlfriend happens to be LDS) I work up at USU as a stage tech and sometimes I have to work on Sunday, which is not such a bad thing in my mind, yesterday was one of those days. I come into work and the other girl that I was working with was sitting in a corner reading the Scriptures. So I ask her why she is doing this. She goes to me “I am reading them because I believe that because I am working today I will go to hell if I do not repent.” I sat there and asked myself “Ok then why did you sign up to work today?” It was at this point in time that I realized that there are two types of LDS people. There are the types who truly believe in the religion and who go about it by their own terms. They realize that sometimes it is impossible to not spend money on Sundays, or that they might even have to work on a Sunday. They do not care what other people think. Then there is the other side. These people go to church every Sunday, do not spend a dim on Sunday, only because they feel that in doing this they will look more “pure” in the eyes of others. This is WRONG! People should do things that they believe is right, not do things that they believe will make people think better or higher of them. Now I have another story for you and this is purely venting yet it has something to do with what was previously stated. I go walking into my girlfriend’s apartment yesterday after I had just rented a movie. I asked her roommates if they wanted to watch it with us. One replied “No thanks, I do not like to watch TV on Sundays.” I was like “Ok that’s fine.” You see I do not care if someone thinks that not watching TV on Sunday will get him or her a better life in the afterlife. It was the fact that after my girlfriend and I had finished the movie I walked out to the living room and saw that same roommate watching a movie. So I ask “What happened to not watching TV on Sundays?” and she replied “Oh I do not watch TV on SunDAYS, but Sunday nights are O.K.” This really made me angry. This girl believed that watching TV on Sunday was bad, yet when everyone else was gone she sat there glued to the TV. She thought that while she is around people whom she knew she should believe that watching TV on Sunday was a bad thing yet when everyone was gone she figured that it was O.K. to be herself again. People like this annoy me and frankly I am sick of it. You should believe in what ever you want; people should care less of what others think. And that is the moral of this little paper. Thanks for reading and I would love to hear what you think of my ideas. |

If your values are based on what others expect of you, you risk becoming alienated from yourself.

I was not trying to get anyone worked up over this all I am trying to do is to get an idea of what others think of it. But thanks for your opinion Mike182.

It's very true of a lot of Utah Mormons, most of the rest of us are a little more mellow.

It's unfortunate that a lot of people are like that. especially LDS, it is against our doctrines to do such a thing, We are not to boast in our own abilities or activities. We do not "praise Jesus" on the bus when they find their car keys like i see some born again or adventists, or baptists do. People who do that are seeking the praise of those around them rather than who they should be seeking blessings from. In the book of Mormon it talks about people who pray in public to get the attention of others, it firmly states that it will gain them nothing because "they have their reward".
We have commandments and covenants that are designed to keep us on the right path, some become zealous or pompous or arrogant and it's sad that it puts a bad light on LDS members everywhere. I do not work on Sundays, and i try my best not to spend money, or go out and play sports, I try to keep my mind centered on spiritual things, like learning the Gospel and studying scriptures. There is a phrase "would you pull an *** out of a ditch on Sunday" (not verbatim) and Yes, I would if something needs to be done, it needs to be done, If i can do something Saturday night or Monday morning, I will do it. Some people's Jobs require work on Sundays, others like an undercover cop in San Diego required him to be around drug dealers and on more than one occasion he did have to use drugs in order to do his job properly, He was always worried about it and he talked with the bishop and as far as I know, the Lord takes things into consideration, we have to live by the laws of the land, and we must perform the tasks assigned to us by our employers or those in stewardship in any capacity over us. People like what you desciped sound hypocritical. some may just have skewed vision and may indeed believe the things they said like "sunDAYS" some people just see things weird.
